why i chose parsons (the new school) as one of my match schools...
I profiled Parsons (The New School) as one of my match schools because I fall mid-range in their average SAT scores ranges and I exceed their top GPA range for accepted students. I also toured the campus in the summer of 2014 and liked how new it was (they were still building!) and the artistic feel it provided. I also liked that they had several different buildings where you could take separate courses instead of different floors in a single building. In addition, I like that there are several different schools within The New School (Parsons is the Design School), so I will be able to meet students in the other schools such as the ones for jazz and performing arts. This school is located around NYC which allows opportunities for connections directly into the industry and future internships. There is even a study abroad program where I could study at a sister school/institution like the one in Paris! I think that Parsons is a good size school with many performing arts activities that I could take part in. There are also 73% of students that come from out of state, which means that I will be meeting people from all over! With the top demographic being Non-Resident “alien,” I’ll be surrounded by many students who come from other countries to study at the design school which can be very beneficial in expanding my sense of culture and where I get inspiration for my designs. However, the price for Parson’s tuition and fees is very pricey and the average financial aid only covers about half of the original $43,000. I still think that it would be a good investment and a great experience to attend Parsons within The New School considering all the benefits and the strength of their programs.
