why i chose pratt institute as one of my reach schools...
I profiled Pratt Institute as one of my reach schools because it’s more selective, my SAT scores are a little below their average ranges, and most of all, the price tag on tuition and fees are double the price of other design schools I’m considering. I toured Pratt back in the summer of 2013, after Freshman year. I really loved the feel of the campus and the (fashion) programs they offered. The fact that they have a traditional campus is important to me because I would ideally like the option to live on my college campus rather than go from an apartment to a building in the middle of a city. Not to mention, Pratt is the only design school in NYC that has a campus and access to the city. It’s also located in Brooklyn which is a more residential and artsy area, but only 20 minutes away from the city on the subway which means I could have the best of both worlds with access to valuable internship and work opportunities. There is no foundation year at Pratt, which means that I would get to start my major first year instead of taking basic drawing, painting, ect. classes (which really appeals to me)! I remember the facilities being very new and accommodating. I think that I’d have a very enjoyable time studying at Pratt. However, I do have to take into account that it is very expensive and they do not seem to give out enough financial aid, which means that I could end up with a lot of debt after college if I attended their school. They do not have very many musical and performing arts activities either which is something that’s important to me.
