why i chose san diego state university as one of my safety schools...
I profiled San Diego State University (SDSU) as one of my safety schools because they offer many majors that I would like to study if I don’t end up getting accepted to the design schools of my choice or if I change my mind next Spring. Though the undergrad population is much larger than my ideal school, I feel like it could open up different opportunities to me than the smaller design ones I’m also considering. The student body also seems to be very diverse based on the statistics which can be beneficial in learning alongside those of many varying backgrounds. There are several opportunities for me to join clubs, sports, and performing arts programs that I would be happy to be a part of on campus. Since the school is here in San Diego, I’ll be able to easily go home for the holidays and won’t have to transition climate-wise. The campus is also large, beautiful, and seems like a place where I’d feel content. Since this school is becoming more selective, I feel that I’ll be surrounded by more driven and focused students. However, 84% of students are in-state, which means that I won’t get much exposure to people from other parts of the country and world...something that is very important to me in my college experience. My GPA is in the top range or higher than those of accepted students, but my SAT scores are on the lower to middle area of their averages, so I’ll be sending my new scores in the Fall for a better chance of getting in.
